Ktu-Rufu, is one of the Old Gods threatening to destroy Shiokawa, Japan. Its summoning ritual involves placing an Eldritch Statuette in the centre of a sigil.
Ktu-Rufu is not unlocked by default. To unlock Ktu-Rufu, one must unlock the "Real Nightmare" Achievement, requiring the player to encounter three "dream" enemies in one playthrough.

Appearance[]
The only visual indicators we have in-game for Ktu-Rufu's appearance are the Old God Card and the Eldritch Statuettes, from this we can assume that he is a gigantic sea monster with a elongated head that looks like an octopus, he has three pairs of eyes and seven tentacles surrounding his mouth, the body looks like it could be similar to that of a human with a bulky build, he has two arms, hands with three sharp claws, and judging from the Eldritch Statuettes, he might also have a pair of wings.

"Nightmares: losing REASON raises DOOM"
DOOM increases by 1% for every 2 points of REASON lost, rounded up. This includes REASON lost by hiring an ally during the FAR-OUT FABLE OF FEAR FESTIVAL mystery, using the PRAY command in combat, using the monument, letting the Hermit ally go, as well as through combat and events. However the extra REASON loss penalty when investigating a DOOMED location causes no increase in DOOM.
You also get the Just a Dream? status effect.

Bad Ending[]
During any playthrough in which Ktu-Rufu is the Old God threatening to destroy the world, if your DOOM reaches 100%, you will be shown a special bad ending.
"The prophecy was right, and there was nothing you could do to stop it. KTU-RUFU's dream of SHIOKAWA has ended.
Being a part of this dream, you and everyone you know have ceased to exist..."
In the final log entries following this bad ending, the player's cause of death is listed as "Just a dream?...".
Trivia[]
- Ktu-Rufu's appearance and his powers in the game bear a striking resemblance to Cthulhu from H.P. Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu, his name is also a verbal distortion of 'Cthulu'.
- His ending, however, is closer to Azathoth from the same universe.
- The statue used for the summoning ritual looks like the same statue that appears on the storage screen.
