Herald of the Shattered Court, otherwise simply known as Herald, is one of the Old Gods threatening to destroy Shiokawa, Japan. Its summoning ritual involves placing a tuba in the centre of a sigil.
Herald is not unlocked by default. To unlock Herald, one must unlock the "Hail to the King" Achievement, requiring the player to defeat any enemy as Moriko Ishii with a fueled Chainsaw.

Appearance[]
Herald is a truly abstract being as its appearance is hard to discern from its limited appearances. Judging by its introductory screen, it is a vaguely humanoid, highly deformed and neckless entity, possessing several blunted spikes on its head and shoulders. Its highly wrinkled face suggests the presence of eyes, but where a nose and mouth should be, Herald instead possesses a tremendous, tubular trunk, with a flared end resembling a trumpet. It holds this trunk aloft with its three-fingered hands. Herald also has similar trunks sprouting from the sides of its head.
Herald is, as its name suggests, always followed in appearance by a tremendous, gleaming city, the titular "Shattered Court".

During any playthrough in which Herald is the Old God threatening to destroy the world, if your DOOM reaches 100%, you will be shown a special bad ending.

In the final log entries following this bad ending, the player's cause of death is listed as "Kidnapped by the Court".
