The Fire Axe is an Strength-based melee weapon in World of Horror, obtainable only through the mystery Macabre Memoir of Morbid Mermaids.
It is one of the most powerful melee weapons in the game at a base damage of 6. However, the heavy axe is very slow with a speed of 100 and a similarly low hit chance of 65.
Combat[]
The Fire Axe is a powerful weapon, above-average in combat effectiveness. Its high damage means access to devastating attacks for any character, but the slow speed and hit chance leaves it lacking for low or even medium Strength characters.
The Fire Axe is superior to most Strength weapons, even acting as a direct upgrade to the Shovel. It is roughly comparable to the Lucky Bat and Monkey Wrench, but is outperformed by them if the player character has high Strength.
Owing to the weapon's mediocre swing speed, characters without high Strength will find it difficult to properly perform the Brace defensive combat action while boosting the subpar hit chance of the weapon to actually land a blow. This could result in high damage taken over time compared to a faster weapon. However, if the player is willing to directly tank damage, the Fire Axe allows for considerable damage-dealing for characters of any stats.
Another benefit of the Axe's sheer power is a superior effectiveness in the Sever action against ghosts, which ignores hit chance and makes all weapons equal in speed, allowing for the high damage to shine through. As such, it could be a prime consideration for usage against enemies such as Roommate.
Ultimately, the Fire Axe's greatest flaw may be the method by which it is obtained. While the Mad Janitor isn't a particularly dangerous boss, he is quite sturdy with a base health of 34, making it nearly inevitable to take some damage in the fight. Simply choosing the 'Topple a Lamp' special action immediately defeats him at the cost of the Burn minor injury, which can be treated at the School Nurse, with a Bandage, at the Doctor's Office for 1 FUND, or even the Unearthly Suture spell for 4% Doom.
A character with a good enough weapon and stats to tear through the Mad Janitor in a fight instead of toppling the lamp will likely already have a better weapon than the Fire Axe or not be a Strength character in the first place.
If gained while the player has a better weapon, it can be sold for 2 FUNDS or thrown for a good 5 damage in combat.
A final benefit is its use in Bizarre Bruit of the Blood-Curdling Botanist to easily obtain Ending C (avoiding the Doom penalty of the usually-easier Ending D) or to get ahold of the even more powerful DIY Flamethrower. However, the latter benefit is diminished by the player character being forced to take at least -7ALL damage to do so.

Uses[]
- Enables the 'CHOP YOUR WAY OUT' option during the Shiro-san, the Gardener encounter, immediately granting the player Ending C of Bizarre Bruit of the Blood-Curdling Botanist. Getting the ending without the Fire Axe usually involves taking high damage in place of Shiro-san several times over.
- Enables the 'CHOP YOUR WAY OUT' option during the Shiro-san, the Garden encounter, allowing the player access to a number of actions to obtain the DIY Flamethrower. This is the only way to obtain Ending A of Bizarre Bruit of the Blood-Curdling Botanist. Be warned that there will be severe unavoidable ALL damage taken in this route.
