Cthac-Atorasu ( クタク-アトラス ), known previously as Atorasu-Nacha or Atorasu-Nasa, is one of the Old Gods that threaten to destroy Shiokawa, Japan. Its ritual apparently involves placing an abnormally large spider cocoon (possibly containing Cthac-Atorasu) in the center of a sigil.
Descriptions[]
Pre-playthrough Introduction[]
"The terrible spider god, CTHAC-ATORASU is once again awakening from its slumber... Blinded by its impossible to satisfy hunger, it has started to tear down the walls of its cocoon prison. Stop it before it devours us all."
Cthac-Atorasu's Old God Selection Screen text is the same as listed above, though the final sentence is omitted.
Pantheon[]
"The terrible Spider God tears the walls of its cocoon prison every 300 years, trying to satisfy its impossible hunger."
Appearance[]
Cthac-Atorasu's appearance is never shown in full, but appears to be a gigantic spider. From what can be seen, its abdomen possesses striped patterning, and its head is misshapen and human-like, with tremendous, blunted teeth in its massive human mouth flanked by mandibles. Two small, rounded eyes sit above its mouth, with what could either be a pattern or a hole sitting between them.
Cthac-Atorasu's size can be clearly seen in its intro screen, where a human pales in comparison to its legs alone.
Old God's Rule[]
Eternal Web: Characters can't escape from combat.
Hovering over the "Escape" option during combat will tell you: "[The invisible web prevents you from running from this encounter.]"
Cthac-Atorasu Events[]
Bad Ending[]
During any playthrough in which Cthac-Atorasu is the Old God threatening to destroy Shiokawa, Japan, if your DOOM reaches 100%, you will be shown a special bad ending.
"CTHAC-ATORASU is free once again! The invisible strands of the spider web slowly cover the entire city, entrapping everyone - including you...
Wrapped in a cocoon, suspended in a near-death state you will wait days, months or maybe years until it's finally your turn to be eaten."
In the final log entries following this ending, the player's cause of death is listed as "Organs liquified [sic] by CTHAC-ATORASU's venom".
Trivia and Theories[]
- Cthac-Atorasu's previous name, Atorasu-Nacha, is very likely to be a Japanese transliteration of Atlach-Nacha, the Lovecraftian spider god created by Clark Ashton Smith, with a deformed human face. [1]
- On the page introducing Cthac-Atorasu that is shown at the beginning of a playthrough with Cthac-Atorasu as the Old God, the Japanese name provided still reads "Atorasu-Nacha" (アトラスーナチャ).
- In addition, its Old God card also still reads "Atorasu-Nasa".
