The Carpenter Hammer is a weapon in World of Horror.
A cheap, blunt Strength weapon, the Carpenter Hammer is one of the fastest melee weapons in game with 75 speed, but it has the worst hit chance out of any weapon at just 50%, alongside doing a decent 4 damage.
The Carpenter Hammer also has a small chance to restore the player character's Stamina per after defeating an enemy in combat.
Combat[]
The Carpenter Hammer is an average weapon for any character with medium to high Strength owing to its high base speed, although particularly low Strength characters will likely have trouble in combat. The awful hit chance makes the use of attack boosting and preparing attacks essential in combat. Due to its good attack speed but poor hit chance, the Carpenter Hammer is more effective late-game with higher Strength and increased accuracy due to levelling up.
The Carpenter Hammer's fast swing speed helps to make up for its poor accuracy, and it will generally outperform other Strength weapons like the Meat Cleaver, Crowbar, or Shovel. Although it is not as good as the Monkey Wrench, the Hammer is 1 FUND cheaper, which may appeal to players tight on money.
Another upside is the Carpenter Hammer's special ability, where it has a chance to recover 1 Stamina after defeating an enemy. If the player gets lucky, the Hammer can provide a much-needed source of Stamina recovery throughout the playthrough. Unfortunately, it is also similarly possible that the effect just never or rarely activates during a run.
The counterpart to the Carpenter Hammer's ability is the Knowledge-based Ritual Dagger, which regains lost Reason instead of Stamina. While differing on a run-by-run basis, the Ritual Dagger's ability may come in handy more often on average due to the fewer ways to restore Reason compared to Stamina. Furthermore, the Ritual Dagger serves as a direct upgrade to the Carpenter Hammer, possessing the same damage and speed but being 10% more accurate.
Although the Carpenter Hammer's in-game description specifies the regaining of 'lost' Stamina, unlike the Ritual Dagger's, the ability actually still activates regardless of whether any Stamina was lost in the encounter. In fact, the Hammer can restore STAMINA even if the player immediately flees combat without actually winning the fight.
If nothing else, the Carpenter Hammer has a high throw damage of 5, for when the player has gotten a better weapon.
