Ath-Yolazsth ( アトゥ-ヨラズス ) is one of the Old Gods that threaten to destroy the world. Those seen summoning it do so by placing a telescope within a sigil.
Descriptions[]
Old God Selection Screen[]
"The Mad God favors astronomers and magicians, granting them its gift of power that unknowingly brings ATH-YOLAZSTH's bloated body closer and closer to Earth."
Pre-playthrough Screen[]
"Media reports on various people with seemingly supernatural skills. Could it have any connection with the news about stars disappearing from the night sky?"
Pantheon[]
"The bloated body of the Towering Eye drifts in the nothingness of cosmos. Magicians granted the gift of power unknowingly bring the OLD GOD closer and closer to their home planet."
Appearance[]
Ath-Yolazth has one of the simpler appearances among the Old Gods, simply appearing as a tremendous, rounded being with a single eye in the center of its body, roughly the size of the Sun. Numerous tentacles sprout from its sides, twisting and curling in open space.
Notably, Ath-Yolazth's appearance is inconsistent- in the Drifting Classroom event and its bad ending, its appearance is as described above; however in its OLD GOD image on the menu, it has a simplified appearance, more resembling an eyeball, with no tentacles and a featureless pupil.

Bad Ending[]
During any playthrough in which Ath-Yolazsth is the Old God threatening to destroy the world, if your DOOM reaches 100%, you will be shown a special bad ending.
"Under the mysterious ATH-YOLAZSTH's influence, the city engulfed in chaos. All the eldritch magic made our planet a bright waypoint for the bloated OLD GOD...
...and a tasty treat. Within the next ten years, Earth is going to be devoured and there's nothing you can do about it anymore."
In the final log entries following this bad ending, the player's cause of death is listed as "Earth devoured by ATH-YOLAZSTH".
Trivia and Theories[]
- The appearance of Ath-Yolazsth is reminiscent of the living planet in Junji Ito's Hellstar Remina, which is a star-sized living planet that consumes planetary bodies. Like the fictional planet Remina, Ath-Yolazsth is also shown to have tentacles. [1]
- Ath-Yolazsth is the only old god which threatens the entire planet rather than just Shiokawa.
- The name of Ath-Yolazsth is most likely to be a portmanteau of two Lovecraftian Outer Gods, Azathoth and Yog-Sothoth.
- As the ruler of the outer gods, Azathoth is often referred to as the Blind Idiot God, a prime example of Lovecraft's cosmicism ideas. [2]
- Yog-Sothoth is an all-knowing entity taking the form of numerous spheres. Pleasing the deity could simultaneously lead to both astounding knowledge and impending doom. [3]
- Ath-Yolazsth appears in the event Drifting Classroom regardless of whether he is chosen as the playthrough's Old God or not. This may imply, along with the game over screen for Aka Manto (True Form) that multiple old gods can be active at once in Shiokawa.
- Choosing Ath-Yolazsth as your OLD GOD will give every playable character a random spell at the beginning of the game.
- This effect stacks with Kirie's random spell. As a result, you will receive two random spells if both were chosen.
- Ath-Yolazsth also bears a strong resemblance to Ghroth, a Lovecraftian deity created by Ramsey Campbell.
